Indian Mounds Park, St. Paul
Volunteer helping restore Mounds Park

Indian Mounds Park is home to one of the most photographed river views in the metro area. The iconic overlook is also home to a restoration project providing much-needed habitat and biodiversity while protecting the bluff, the views and local water quality.

FMR volunteers — students from nearby Harding High Earth Club, community members (including Friends of Mounds Park) and individuals and families from throughout the metro area — have been restoring the native bluff prairie on historic Indian Mounds Park's overlook since 2011.

Volunteers are now needed to lend a hand working with FMR and Saint Paul Parks & Recreation staff to tend to native prairie plants previously installed by other Indian Mounds Park stewards. By removing invasive species and assisting with other tending tasks, volunteers will help the plants thrive and make it through the summer. Thanks to their deep roots, the prairie plants help anchor the steep bluff soil and filter pollutants, such as oil and lawn chemicals, carried to the bluff by stormwater. They will also provide important bee, butterfly and bird habitat.

Please wear sturdy shoes and be prepared to work on steep and uneven terrain. While most FMR activities are family friendly, due to the tools and terrain this particular event is not suitable for small children. Tools and training will be provided.
