Working to protect the Mississippi River and its watershed in the Twin Cities area

Mississippi River Challenge update: Cheers to sign-ups, happy hours and Roe Family Singers!

This year’s Night at the Fort features “good-time, old-time hillbilly band” the Roe Family Singers. Even after a day of paddling or volunteering, they’re sure to get your feet moving.

In late April, FMR staff, board members and volunteers met many prospective paddlers and general outdoor enthusiasts at the Midwest Mountaineering Expo. We were inspired by their enthusiasm for the new route and new half-day paddling option! Dozens of people signed up for “Paddle It! Protect It!” emails to stay in touch about Mississippi River Challenge news and updates. (Are you on the list? Sign up now!)

We’re also encouraged by the number of paddlers and volunteers already signed up this year. There’s good reason to register sooner rather than later. Paddlers who sign up before July 1st receive a discounted rate, and many of the more popular Riverfront Support Crew volunteer shifts reach capacity by June 1st.

We are also pleased to announce that The Roe Family Singers will perform at the Night at the Fort celebration! Coming from the Mississippi headwaters community of Kirkwood Hollow this “good-time, old-time hillbilly band” is sure to get your feet moving, even after a day of paddling or volunteering. The Night at the Fort is free for all paddlers and for all Riverfront Support Crew volunteers who sign up for two or more shifts. Family and friends are also invited to join and enjoy discounted admission if they sign up before July 1st!

Join us at an informational happy hour!

Dates are yet to be set but please keep your eye out for the next “Paddle It! Protect It!” email newsletter, or check the MississippiRiverChallenge.org calendar for updates.
