Whose view? From where? — May 2014

Last months view was taken a few years ago by one of our star volunteer photographers, Timothy Boyle. It was taken from the 314-acre Pine Bend Bluffs Scientific and Natural Area in Inver Grove Heights, looking upstream towards an island that is just south of River Lake.

Pine Bend Bluffs SNA is one of the highest quality natural areas in the Twin Cities, with stunning views of the river, unusual and dramatic topography and native plant communities with high species diversity. Its a wonderful place to take a hike, but be aware that the terrain is steep and rough, there are not many trails, and there are plenty of ticks. To get to the place where this photo was taken, follow the pipeline easement at the SNA all the way down to the river. The path is mowed the whole way making for somewhat easier terrain than going through the woods.

About Whose view? From where?

Each month in this section, we feature a photo somewhere along the river corridor in the Twin Cities that is in some way significant or important or just plain scenic. Individuals may then e-mail us and identify the view and explain why they believe it is significant to the community or important to them personally. Well publish some of your responses in the next issue of Mississippi Messages, where we will also reveal the correct answer.

To submit your guess and response, e-mail Irene Jones, River Corridor Program Director, through our contact form.
