Whose view? From where? — September 2014

Congratulations to David Inman for responding first for this months Whose View. Inman correctly identified the many bridges in the photo, including the High Bridge under construction, the Spiral Bridge, and the Milwaukee Road bridge, taken by photographer Ver Keljik in 1950.

Unfortunately, the Spiral Bridge and High Bridge are no longer present, and many noted their memories live on in Hastings. Matthew Loyas listed Spiral Pizza, Spiral Natural Foods, Spiral Blvd, Spiral Fence Company, and Spiral Garage Door as some of the local businesses named after the bridge.

Photographer Ver Keljik is known locally for photographing landscapes and iconic architectures throughout Minnesota. The Minnesota Historical Society Photo Archives houses many of Keljiks photographs documenting the 1930s through 1960s all over the state.

Thank you to all of our responses for this month. In total, we had over 16 people correctly identify the landmark and the year! Keep reading and contributing to our newsletter each month, we love to hear from you!!

About Whose view? From where?

Each month in this section, we feature a photo somewhere along the river corridor in the Twin Cities that is in some way significant or important or just plain scenic. Individuals may then e-mail us and identify the view and explain why they believe it is significant to the community or important to them personally. We'll publish some of your responses in the next issue of Mississippi Messages, where we will also reveal the correct answer.
