Professional Bio

Sara has been working in the nonprofit community for the entirety of her career. Prior to her time at FMR, Sara served as the Associate Director of Gathering Waters: Wisconsin’s Alliance for Land Trusts where she applied her experience in strategic planning, board development, fundraising, program development, and communications and helped to grow the organization into a national leader in support of nonprofit conservation organizations. She has also served on the boards of Community Shares of Wisconsin and the Greater Madison Chapter of the Association of Fundraising Professionals, and began her own nonprofit – Get Down & Give Back – to support local nonprofits doing valuable work in the community and to get young people involved in philanthropy. Sara holds a B.S. in zoology and biological aspects of conservation and an M.S. in conservation biology and sustainable development from the University of Wisconsin.

FMR Role

As the Development Director, Sara is a member FMR's senior management team and leads the development team to establish fundraising goals and achieve fundraising successes. She manages a full-scale development effort including membership and annual fund, individual and major gifts, corporate and foundation giving, e-fundraising, fundraising events, special campaigns, planned giving, donor research, and stewardship.

Personal Details

When Sara isn't at work she enjoys exploring the Twin Cities and going on adventures with her husband and two young daughters.
