The Minnesota Pollution Control Agency is requesting public comment on proposed standards for the south metro Mississippi River, which stretches from Fort Snelling to Lake Pepin. These site-specific standards set clear limits on turbidity — suspended sediments and soil in the river’s water (which, as you can see in the photo above, becomes a problem at the confluence of the Minnesota and Mississippi rivers at Fort Snelling) — and are the first step toward a Clean Water Act-mandated river cleanup.
