Stream Health Evaluation Program training

Display Date:
Saturday, August 23, 2008 — 10:00 am-4:00 pm (Check-in: 9:40-9:55)
Location:
Wargo Nature Center, Lino Lakes

Please note: This event has reached its registration capacity.

This training is for registered SHEP volunteers only. Would you like to wade into your watershed? Preference is given to Rice Creek Watershed District residents. See below for details.

The training is required for participation in SHEP (see below). It is led by scientists from the Minnesota Pollution Control Agency and Minnesota Waters, and held at Wargo Nature Center.

The vast majority of the Saturday training will be fieldwork, focused on exactly what volunteers need to do during the sampling phase. Supplies (such as waders), food and beverages will be provided, but volunteers may want to bring their own waders to be more comfortable.

There will be a separate laboratory analysis training held in October, as the lab analysis portion of SHEP gets going. Those dates will be announced to registrants shortly before the late-August training.

About SHEP

SHEP volunteers are regular citizens trained to meet professional-grade stream health testing standards. They then apply this knowledge in the stream and in the laboratory in September and October. Volunteers put in an average 25-30 hours between the trainings, sample and analysis times.

More information on this project is available at our SHEP volunteering page, and watershed district maps are available at the Rice Creek Watershed District’s web site.

To register for the program, please contact Volunteer Coordinator sue rich through our contact form. Read more…

Notice:
Note: This training is restricted to SHEP volunteers who have committed to complete the program this fall.
