Facebook fans make river resolutions

With over 400 fans, we knew FMR’s Facebook community could come up with some good river-related resolutions. Here are a few of our favorites:

  • “Add two more raingardens to my yard, one near the bluff and the other one by the storm sewer.” — Patti Lou
  • “We can foster river hikes, education, advocacy and clean-up as a regular social activity with groups of friends, throughout 2010!” — Tony Andrea
  • “Wash my car with environmentally friendly products and use less water in the process!” — Mary Presnail
  • “I resolve to install permeable pavers in the parking area adjacent to my garage! :D” — Sarah Risser
  • (Plus one for fun: “Stop throwing cigarette butts down storm drains! [Just kidding I would never do that!]” — Anonymous)

If any of these sound good to you, too, here’s a few links to help get you going:

  • Our events calendar includes several watershed friendly gardening classes, plus recommended reading suggestions in the class write-ups.
  • The U of M Extension Service has a good overview of permeable pavers in their Yard and Garden archive.
  • Read about eco-friendly car washing
  • Matching funds and/or resources are often available from your local watershed district or conservation office. Visit the BlueThumb site for a list of metro cost-sharing programs and links.
