Yumi Kashihara

Yumi Kashihara 樫原佑実 (she/her) has experience in environmental work through nonprofit organizations, including FMR, as well as in regional planning at the Metropolitan Council. She's currently pursuing her master’s degree while researching historical wetland and water area changes at Pig's Eye Lake and its surrounding area. She also contributes to other research projects focused on urban tree planting and tree canopy delineation.
Education: B.A. in Geography, University of Minnesota; current graduate student in Natural Resources Science and Management, University of Minnesota
FMR involvement: 2021-2022 Environmental Stewardship Institute (ESI) Youth Advisory Council Assistant; 2022 Community Engagement Summer Intern
Interests or hobbies: Rock climbing (outdoor & indoor), hiking, trail running, playing guitar and painting

Why Yumi serves on the FMR board: "I serve on the board to both support and learn from the FMR’s impactful work in the Twin Cities and beyond. I’m excited about bringing my expertise in forestry and natural resources management, along with fresh perspectives as a graduate student, a young professional, and someone from another country and culture."
