Thursday, September 17, 2015 - 6:00pm to Friday, September 18, 2015 - 7:45pm

This event has reached capacity and registrations are no longer being taken. Please consider:

• Signing up for the River Gorge Stewards email list with FMR Outreach & Volunteer Coordinator sue rich, srich@fmr.org. River Gorge Stewards events take place in Minneapolis and St. Paul, spanning from roughly St. Anthony Falls in downtown Minneapolis to downtown St. Paul. We send 4-8 Gorge Stewards emails a year.
• Signing up for Mississippi Messages to receive a full calendar of all upcoming FMR events twice a month.

-----------

Join other River Gorge Stewards volunteers and staff from FMR and Saint Paul Parks & Recreation as we install a variety of native plants at lovely Crosby Farm Regional Park.

Near the confluence of the Mississippi and Minnesota rivers, volunteers will work in a raingarden, a runoff-reducing berm and a demonstration prairie. We'll plant what's needed in each — wetland and drought-hardy plants, eensy plugs and saplings — to strengthen and expand the restoration area. Altogether, the native plants, prairie, raingarden and berm serve as "green infrastructure" — helping to prevent erosion, improve soils and filter pollution from runoff stormwater before it can reach the river. Of course, the native plants also provide much-needed urban habitat for native bees, birds and other wildlife.

As always, staff will provide all the guidance, tools, and gloves needed for a productive and fun event. Children accompanied by a parent or guardian are welcome. (Teens are welcome to participate independently but will need a guardian to sign this online permission form in advance.)

Photos from a similar planting at Crosby last fall are available on FMR's Flickr page.
