Homes in Newport scheduled for removal because of flood hazard

A failing River levee is threatening homes in Newport. Because prospects of levee repair are slight, city officials have decided to purchase seven to twenty homes from willing sellers and raze them. But in addition to a large pricetag – $5 to $20 million for a city with an annual budget of just $2.1 million – officials are facing concern from the affected homeowners.
