Member of FMR staff since: March 2007

Education: University of Minnesota, BS in Urban Studies and Geography minor (spring 2007)

Professional experience: Most recent prior to FMR: environmental planning intern, Sydney, Australia. I was able to work closely with an air quality and energy efficiency program called the 3CBDs Greenhouse Gas Initiative as well as look at various stormwater management approaches. Also worked for nearly five years as the Administrative Assistant for the Saint Paul Riverfront Corporation.

Quote: I joined FMR because I have a keen interest in environmental management and sustainability. FMR is a reputable and effective organization in the community and I am thrilled to take part in the work that is done here.

Favorite places on the river: Mounds Park, the overlook off of the High Bridge and the area surrounding the Stone Arch Bridge. These places offer a truly impressive sense of the powerful influence the river has had in developing the cities of Saint Paul and Minneapolis as industrial cities on the river.

Born: Tomah, Wisconsin

Hobbies: Running. Ryan has run many 5K and 10k races, as well as a couple marathons, including the Twin Cities Marathon and the Sydney Marathon. He also enjoys hiking, camping, sea kayaking, white water rafting, downhill skiing and mountain biking. He recently learned how to surf and is looking forward to increasing his skill level. He also fell in love with snorkeling while on the Great Barrier Reef.

Favorite animal: Napoleon Fish

Last book he read that he really loved: The Devil in The White City, by Erik Larson

Favorite musicians and bands: Bernard Fanning and Rob Thomas/Matchbox Twenty

Last big vacation: While on a 5 month trip to Australia, he spent 11 days in Cairns, Australia and explored the Great Barrier Reef and rainforests.

Something most people dont know about Ryan: I faced (not conquered) my fear of heights by taking a hot air balloon ride in Cairns, Australia over the rainforest. Although I was terrified, the beauty of the rainforest distracted me from how high we actually were and I made it through without any embarrassing incidents.
