Lisa Mueller
Conservation Director (former)
Professional Bio
Lisa has worked in conservation for more than 30 years. Her love of nature and the outdoors was inspired by her mom and grandma who took her fishing and berry picking in the Wisconsin Northwoods.
She received a B.S. in Wildlife Biology from the University of Minnesota and an M.S. in Ecology/Environmental Science from Indiana University's School of Public and Environmental Affairs. She later earned a teaching certification in Life Sciences from the University of Wisconsin.
She has worked for the Minnesota Department of Agriculture, The Nature Conservancy, the Grantsburg School District and, most recently, for Dakota County, where she served as a land acquisition specialist.
In addition to conservation and restoration, Lisa is particularly interested in sustainable and organic agriculture, climate and energy policy and working with young people to inspire them to enjoy time in nature.
FMR Role
Lisa coordinates the efforts of the Land Conservation program. She works with public and private landowners and fellow conservation organizations to protect, restore and enhance natural areas that are important for the life of the river. She also serves as the program's lead fundraiser and grants manager.
Personal Details
Lisa enjoys life on her farm in western Wisconsin where she grows organic produce for local farmer's markets. Her Master's work was on the behavioral ecology of "cross-fostered" whooping cranes and she looks forward to the day when whooping cranes are again nesting in Minnesota.
Lisa also loves to travel, especially with her two children, Dylan and Maya.
