Rice Creek open for paddling and FMR leads a tour
The spring, FMR held one of our Special Places Tours in the Rice Creek Watershed. Our May 31 paddle included the newly opened reach of the Rice Creek through the former Twin Cities Army Ammunition parcel. The event was a big hit with participants and was featured in the Star Tribune.
Rice Creek begins in Howard Lake in Columbus Township and runs south to the Rice Creek Chain of Lakes in Lino Lakes, Minnesota. The new Rice Creek Water Trail will take paddlers from the Chain of Lakes through over 20 miles of river and lake waters all the way to the Mississippi River in Fridley.
The new trail, which features diverse paddling options including sections of placid lake paddling, newly restored urban streams and even reaches of class 1 rapids, is a wonderful new Twin Cities metro area water recreation opportunity. For information about how you can explore this wonderful water resource, please contact FMRs Trevor Russell at 651-222-2193 x18 or through our contact form.
