Environmental Stewardship Institute Program Associate

Bio

Naomi Nickel (she/her) graduated from the University of Minnesota Twin Cities in 2025 with a BA in linguistics. She was one of the first participants to join Friends of the Mississippi River's Environmental Stewardship Institute in 2019. She spent the next two summers supporting the program as an ESI Assistant, and then became FMR's first-ever ESI Program Associate in 2022, supporting year-round ESI programming.

FMR Role

In 2025, Naomi became a full-time staff member at FMR as a Stewardship & Education Program Associate. She coordinates the ESI summer program and youth council, building career pathways for high schoolers interested in the environmental field. She also works alongside the Stewardship & Education team to support volunteer programs.

Personal Details

When Naomi is not working, she loves to cross-country ski, learn languages and go to the movies. Her favorite place to ski is Phalen Park in St. Paul.
