Community Science & Education Coordinator
Bio
Alex (they/she) is a graduate of Macalester College with a bachelor of arts in environmental studies and biology. Alex's research has centered around water policy and quality in the Twin Cities, including Mississippi River locks and dams, as well as water quality and harmful algal blooms in relation to discriminatory and racist housing practices.
Alex as worked with climate and environmental organizations in Minnesota and Virginia, including Frogtown Green and the Virginia Youth Climate Cooperative. Alex enjoys teaching and spent a year teaching in Austrian secondary schools through the U.S. Teaching Assistantship Fulbright program. Passionate about storytelling, they have made multiple documentary shorts and worked with SUN20 TV in New York as an Arts and Culture videographer and editor sharing community stories.
FMR role
With a focus on community science and water quality education, Alex manages and leads the Storm Drain Stenciling and Education Program and the Stream Health Evaluation Program, and coordinates the Pollinator Evaluation Program. She also supports with volunteer conservation restoration events and educational workshops for community members, for the benefit of water quality, habitat and the river. Alex works with the Stewardship & Education team to help shape and meet the organization’s outreach, education and volunteer engagement priorities and goals.
Personal details
Alex enjoys doing pretty much anything that involves being outside! In addition to being in direct sunlight, Alex enjoys photography, local theater, painting, science facts and meeting new people.
