FMR is hosting a series of walking tours of the Ford Area C site beginning in October 2025.

FMR is hosting a series of guided walking tours of Ford Area C — an overlooked, decades-old dumpsite left behind by Ford Motor Company on the banks of the Mississippi River.

The Minnesota Pollution Control Agency (MPCA) is expected to hold a public comment period early this winter to review Ford's feasibility study and proposed cleanup alternatives. At FMR, we believe that Ford Area C needs to be fully cleaned up to protect the health of the river and our communities for generations to come.

Our advocates will play a crucial role in demonstrating that the public wants to hold Ford accountable and secure the site's full cleanup.

If you want to learn more about the site and how to take action, please sign up for one of the three available walking tour dates below. Each tour will cover the same info and offer a chance to check out the construction debris that covers the pile and the waste buried below. We encourage you to sign up for only one tour, but if you need to change the date you attend, you can cancel your initial ticket and register for the new tour you would like to attend.

Accessibility

We will meet at the picnic shelter at Hidden Falls Regional Park before beginning the walking tour. There is plenty of parking in the adjacent parking lot or overflow lots. The park is also accessible by bike.

The walking tour is about 1.5 miles roundtrip on an unpaved trail with occasional uneven terrain and fallen trees.

We encourage you to bring a water bottle and wear shoes that may get sandy or muddy.
