Oak woodland brush haul + lunch [WAITLIST]

Please note this event is now full, but a waitlist is being taken.
Thanks to the support of local volunteers and a long-term partnership with 3M, FMR has had the privilege of helping to preserve and restore the oak woodlands at 3M's Cottage Grove facility near the Mississippi River. Former buckthorn thickets are now giving way to wildflowers and wildlife, helping to connect adjacent natural areas and form part of a green corridor in southern Washington County.
At this volunteer restoration event, we'll start the morning with a light breakfast and info session. Then volunteers will head out to work in small groups with FMR staff to help restore the oak woodlands by hauling pre-cut brush, primarily buckthorn, before we wrap things up and enjoy a catered lunch courtesy of 3M. This year, we will also be hauling pre-cut downed material from a 2024 storm that has made ecological management activities challenging.
All are welcome; no experience is needed. However, due to the nature of the work on this site, volunteers must be 15 years of age or older. We'll provide the tools, protective gear, gloves and training. Registration is required. Please note this event typically fills fast; we recommend signing up early.
Accessibility
Volunteers will work on uneven ground and hillsides with cut stumps. Hauling brush is a high-intensity activity.
There is a building with a restroom at the gathering place.
