The Tamarack Mine is a proposed nickel-copper sulfide mine that would be built in Tamarack, Minnesota, roughly 120 miles north of St. Paul, in the St. Croix and Mississippi River watersheds. No sulfide mine in the U.S. or Canada has operated long-term without polluting the watersheds.
FMR has partnered with Water Over Nickel on a campaign to raise awareness about the potential negative consequences of this mine and risks to nearby communities, including the Mille Lacs Band of Ojibwe.
The mine is moving into a new state of review — and the decisions made now could affect waters that flow through the Mississippi and St. Croix River watersheds.
From July 14 through September 12, the public will have its first opportunity to formally weigh in on the Tamarack proposal. This public comment period is one of the most important ways for Minnesotans to influence how our state protects clean water, downstream communities, and Tribal resources.
