Framework for clean water in MN to be presented Jan. 14th
The University of Minnesotas Water Resources Center has been charged by the Minnesota State Legislature to develop the framework for sustainable water management, a set of recommendations that will protect and preserve Minnesotas lakes, stream, rivers and ground waters for the 21st century and beyond without compromising peoples current needs, water quality or natural ecosystems. This product is called the Minnesota Water Sustainability Framework.
A formal presentation of the recommendations to the Minnesota Legislature is scheduled for Friday, January 14th 2011. Visit the Water Resources Center webpage for updates throughout this month.
You can also view an informative overview of the Framework's draft recommendations by project leader Deborah Swackhamer on the University's Water Resources Science Graduate Program seminar series page.
While the Framework's fate in the new legislature is uncertain, we will urge lawmakers and the new Governor to take action on the recommendations included in the Framework to ensure a safe, clean and healthy water supply for Minnesota's next generation.
In the meantime, if you're interested in having a Framework project team member speak at an upcoming event or meeting about this important step forward for Minnesotas waters, please email Framework project coordinator Jean Coleman at jcoleman@crplanning.com.
