Long-time river rat and frequent FMR partner Dan McGuiness retires
Long-time river rat and frequent FMR partner Dan McGuniess has recently retired from his position as Director of the Audubon Societys Upper Mississippi River Campaign. Before coming to Audubon in 1998, Dan was the Director of the Minnesota - Wisconsin Boundary Area Commissison, where he worked extensively on management issues concerning the Mississippi and Saint Croix Rivers.
In addition to his many years of professional service to the River, Dan makes his home on the river bluff in Saint Pauls Highwood neighborhood and has been active as a citizen on river conservation issues. Dan was one of the first landowners to enroll his property in FMRs Heritage Land Registry and he has been a long-time steering committee member of the Lower Phalen Creek Project, which has worked with the City of Saint Paul to establish and improve the Bruce Vento Nature Sanctuary along the river in the Lowertown area of downtown.
Fortunately for the river, Dan hasnt decided to hang-up his waders yet he has started his own consulting firm where he will continue to use his many skills and years of experience to help people and protect places. No doubt some of those places will be along the river. We wish Dan the best in this new phase of his career!
