Serve the River: Participate in FMR Events
Do you have required service hours to complete for a college class or accreditation program? We're glad you found us.
Many service contributors participate in FMR's regular volunteer habitat restoration events, which are two- to three-hour outdoor weekend or weekday evening activities, mid-April through mid-October. They're a fun way to help the river and signing up is easy.
Before registering for a hands-on habitat restoration FMR event, here's what service contributors and organizers need to know:
1. We're strictly BYOP: Bring Your Own Paperwork.
If you need proof of participation, you must bring your paperwork to the volunteer event itself. Staff will confirm your hours and sign your form at the event's conclusion. If you don't have an official form from your instructor, feel free to print this one.
2. If you're under 18, and will be arriving without a parent or guardian, we must have their permission in advance.
3. No-shows hurt. Email the event coordinator to let them know if you can't make it.
4. It can take a day or two, but we'll get you the details.
Event details, including where to meet, may not be available instantly. FMR event coordinators read your email and reply within one or two business days.
If you email the person listed for the event you're interested in, rest assured we'll get you all of the details and directions you'll need. If you emailed us and we haven't replied, please check your SPAM box or contact volunteer@fmr.org.
5. Sorry, no group sign-ups.
We keep sign-up as simple as possible. There's no application, and there's no need to call us to set up an interview. Simply follow the registration instructions from each write-up on our events calendar to sign up.
However, each class- or program-mate with service hours to complete needs to register individually.
For a group, consider a stenciling outing or checking out a DIY stenciling kit.
6. If you have more than a few hours of service to complete, you may not be able to complete all required hours with FMR alone.
Please review FMR's events and then check out our Serve the River partners' opportunities.
7. Students are welcome to volunteer.
We do not ask students to speak on FMR's behalf by tabling or co-leading events.
Thanks and we look forward to hearing from you!
