Youth education opportunities

Looking for ways to get outdoors or engage in a fun educational activity for the river? FMR offers a variety of education and volunteer opportunities for K-12 groups and individual youth in the greater Twin Cities metro area.

Classroom lessons

Download complete curriculum kits or inquire about in-person classroom lessons to K-12 classrooms in the greater Twin Cities metro area. Topics include invasive species, wetlands, watersheds and erosion.

Storm drain stenciling and cleanups

K-12 and college groups located in Minneapolis or St. Paul can get outside with us by scheduling a storm drain stenciling outing or trash pickup or cleanup near their location.

Service-learning projects & volunteer hours

FMR can support independent service projects on a case-by-case basis. Contact education@fmr.org with your project idea or request.

Many students (including college students) sign up for FMR events to complete volunteer or service hours for a class or program. Learn more about serving the river

The Environmental Stewardship Institute

The Environmental Stewardship Institute is for high schoolers and rising college first-years interested in learning more about and exploring the environmental field.

Stewardship and restoration partnerships

If you'd like your K-12 group to research or steward an FMR habitat restoration site near you and create an ongoing learning experience for your school or classroom, please contact education@fmr.org to schedule an introductory meeting.
