Youth education opportunities for winter and spring

Looking for ways to keep classrooms engaged with our environment during the winter months? Or planning ahead for ways to get outside this coming spring? FMR offers a variety of free virtual and in-person education and volunteer opportunities for K-12 groups and individual youth in the greater Twin Cities metro area.

Classroom lessons (virtual and in-person)

FMR staff offer in-person and live virtual lessons to all K-12 classrooms in the greater Twin Cities metro area. Topics include cultural landscapes, invasive species, wetlands, watersheds and erosion.

We look forward to offering in-person lessons and field trips to new classroom partners in Minneapolis and St. Paul beginning in the fall of 2022.

Storm drain stenciling and cleanups

K-12 groups located in Minneapolis or St. Paul can get outside with us by scheduling a storm drain stenciling or cleanup outing with us near their locations May through October, as weather allows. All groups need to provide their own transportation to a location in Minneapolis or St. Paul.

Stewardship and restoration partnerships

If you'd like your K-12 group to research or steward an FMR site near you and create an ongoing learning experience for your school or classroom, please contact education@fmr.org to schedule an introductory meeting.

Service-learning projects & volunteer hours

FMR restores natural habitat for wildlife and water quality at sites across the greater metro area.

FMR can support independent youth service projects on a case-by-case basis. This opportunity is open to youth in elementary school through college. Please contact education@fmr.org with your project idea or request.
