Regarding Roe v. Wade
FMR is proud to announce that at its meeting on June 29, the Board of Directors adopted a resolution (below) to support comprehensive, voluntary and equitable reproductive health care for all. We are committed to both environmental and reproductive justice.
“Civic institutions should not remain silent on issues that so profoundly affect our fundamental human rights and have such a disproportionate, inequitable impact,” said FMR Board member Nou Yang. “Everyone deserves to live in a safe environment, free to make decisions about their own bodies and health."

Friends of the Mississippi River Supports Abortion Rights And Comprehensive Health Care In Minnesota
(Resolved 6/29/22)
Whereas, there will be efforts to restrict access to comprehensive reproductive health care including abortion in Minnesota in light of the United States Supreme Court’s overturning of Roe v. Wade, and Whereas, Friends of the Mississippi River believes that the Mississippi River connects us all and that social and environmental issues are woven together, and
Whereas, Friends of the Mississippi River is committed to the advancement of its Mission and Core Values and Equity Statement, and Whereas, Friends of the Mississippi River believes that bodily autonomy is a core human right, and
Whereas, Friends of the Mississippi River believes that efforts to restrict access to comprehensive reproductive health care will compromise its values and commitment to equity,
Therefore, Friends of the Mississippi River is opposed to efforts to restrict access to abortion and comprehensive reproductive health care because they would:
- Disproportionately impact low-income and BIPOC communities in a state already known for its deep racial and other inequities,
- Disenfranchise many in our community, and
- Limit our organization's ability to offer comprehensive health care benefits to our employees, compromising our capacity to attract and retain talented staff to most effectively serve our mission,
Be it Resolved that Friends of the Mississippi River shall publicly oppose efforts to restrict access to abortion and comprehensive reproductive health care.
