Dr. George Annor
Dr. George Amponsah Annor is an Associate Professor in the Department of Food Science and Nutrition at the University of Minnesota, where he holds the General Mills Endowed Professorship in Cereal Chemistry & Technology.
George's research focuses on developing innovative food systems that improve human health while advancing environmental sustainability. Through interdisciplinary collaborations with farmers, industry, government agencies, and nonprofit organizations, he works to translate scientific discoveries into practical solutions that strengthen agricultural resilience and food security.
Much of George's work centers on perennial grains, climate-smart agriculture, sustainable crop utilization, and food innovation. He is actively involved in the University's Forever Green Initiative, where he helps accelerate the development and adoption of crops that protect water quality, improve soil health, and create new economic opportunities for farmers. As both a scientist and educator, George is passionate about connecting research, policy and community engagement to build a more sustainable future.

As a member of the Friends of the Mississippi River Board of Directors, I am excited to contribute scientific expertise that supports FMR’s mission of protecting and restoring the Mississippi River. I am also particularly interested in strengthening connections between water quality, sustainable agriculture, food systems, and public policy while fostering partnerships that generate lasting environmental impact.
Why I serve on the FMR board:
I joined the FMR Board because I believe protecting the Mississippi River requires strong partnerships among science, communities, agriculture and policy. I hope to contribute research-based perspectives that help advance practical, lasting solutions for cleaner water, healthier ecosystems and more resilient food systems.
