After seven years as superintendent of our local national park, the Mississippi National River and Recreation Area (MNRRA) Paul Labovitz is leaving his post to become the superintendent of the Indiana Dunes National Lakeshore.

Under his leadership the park has dramatically increased its programming for youth and park staff have played an active role in resource management decision-making. Paul has been a leading advocate for strong state rules for the Mississippi River Corridor Critical Area and he and his staff have pressed hard for decisive action to prevent the spread of invasive carp. Paul has been an outspoken advocate for protecting the Mississippi River said FMR executive director Whitney Clark. Paul and his staff have been wonderful partners. Were going to miss him.

The National Park Service is now conducting a search for Pauls replacement and they hope to have a new superintendent in place by later this summer.
