ESI guest post: A sustainable agriculture zine
This is a guest post from Lucy, a 2023 Environmental Stewardship Institute (ESI) fellow. ESI fellows design and carry out a capstone project during a six-week summer program. Lucy dug in at two organic farms to research sustainable agriculture and create this info zine. (Note: Opinions expressed in ESI projects are those of the program participant and do not necessarily represent those of FMR.)

I created a zine about sustainable agricultural practices and their benefits. For my research I visited, worked with and stayed at some organic farms in the region to learn about what they do to be more sustainable.
Why I chose this project
I chose this project because I was planning to go to these two farms and wanted to utilize those experiences to learn more. I care a lot about sustainability and food justice, and this was a good opportunity to hone in on that. I have my own magazine about music and make zines pretty regularly which was beneficial in creating my final project.
What I hope you take away
Awareness about what goes into our food and where it comes from is super important! Not only is it good for the planet, but it also helps you connect with what provides your nutrients and brings people together.

FMR created the Environmental Stewardship Institute to address the gap between environmental education and a career path in the environmental field. We hold a summer intensive program and a school-year youth advisory council. Learn more about the 2023 ESI summer program, including other final project highlights.
