Welcome to our new interns!

This semester, FMR is proud to welcome three new and returning interns: Ashley Tabery, Rebekah Holmes and Jennifer Burt.

  • Ashley Tabery is a senior at the University of Minnesota, where she majors in Environmental Science, Policy and Management with a focus on Water Resource Management. As Political and Education Event Assistant, Ashley will help with many aspects of FMR's work. First, she will assist with outreach for and also attend the upcoming Minnesota Environmental Partnership environmental town hall meetings in state legislative districts 50 and 57 (see our events calendar for updates on when and where). Next, she will shift into research mode, pulling together much needed up-to-date critical area plans from each city and township in the Mississippi National River and Recreation Area. In the spring, she will help organize and prepare materials for educational watershed workshops and other events. We are confident she will make significant contributions towards these and any other endeavors that come her way.
  • We are also lucky to have intern Rebekah Holmes, a senior majoring in Environmental Studies at Macalester College, returning to help with the Minnesota Environmental Partnership meetings and then assisting with outreach for a new Earth Day event in the Pine Bend area – all while helping to get the word out about the Mississippi River Challenge! Rebekah has been with FMR since fall 2007 through Macalesters Off-Campus Student Employment program. Her experience and depth of knowledge is much appreciated, not to mention her impressive communication skills.
  • While not technically an intern, volunteer Jennifer Burt, named a River Hero just this past fall, will be taking on a special project this winter here in the FMR office. Jennifer, a Geology major, will be helping research new leads on culturally diverse groups who might be interested in participating in the storm drain stenciling project in St. Paul and perhaps other FMR activities. Her energy and organization skills are sure to produce impressive results and we are grateful, as ever, for her assistance.
