Whose view? From where? — June 2008

Indeed, as Cliff Aichinger from the Ramsey-Washington Metro Watershed District correctly guessed, this photo was taken from Lake Rebecca Park in Hastings.

In the foreground, FMR friends and volunteers are busy doing shoreline restoration in Lake Rebecca Park. In fact, the body of water in the photo is Lake Rebecca, as opposed to the River itself. Since 2004, FMR has worked with the City of Hastings to restore and former tank farm to native shoreland, prairie and parkland.

Hastings iconic U.S. 61 bridge over the Mississippi can be seen in the background, connecting Hastings to Cottage Grove and points north. The bridge was found to be in dire need of repair in the last year, and that repair has frazzled many a commuter as it has been reduced to one lane for some time now. FMR is monitoring discussions and planning for the bridges replacement in coming years.

About Whose view? From where?

Each month in this section, we feature a photo somewhere along the river corridor in the Twin Cities that is in some way significant or important or just plain scenic. Individuals may then e-mail us and identify the view and explain why they believe it is significant to the community or important to them personally. Well publish some of your responses in the next issue of Mississippi Messages, where we will also reveal the correct answer.

To submit your guess and response, e-mail Bob Spaulding, River Advocate, through our contact form. The respondent to provide the first correct identification of the view and hopefully some interesting thoughts about its significance will receive a valuable prize for their effort. All entries must be received by the first day of the following month for consideration.
