Whose view? From where? - January 2016
We got a few responses this month describing a scene similar to January's featured view, but none were quite correct. This beautiful stumper was taken by Tom Bell, a longtime FMR member and Grey Cloud Island Township resident. It's part of a lovely photo essay Tom shared with FMR a few years back and features the fill or causeway between the upper and lower islands. The eagle's nest just visible in the tree across the river is on a small peninsula jutting out from the Cottage Grove mainland.
Grey Cloud Island is a bit off the beaten track but well worth a visit. Head to St. Paul Park then south on County Road 75. (To look up directions, try "Grey Cloud Park, Cottage Grove, MN" as a starting point.) Be sure to build in extra time for exploring and be careful not to get lost.
About “Whose view? From where?”
Each month in this section, we feature a photo somewhere along the river corridor in the Twin Cities that is significant in some way or just plain scenic. Individuals may then email us, identifying the view and explaining how they see it's importance on either a community or personal level. The best responses are published in the next issue of Mississippi Messages when the location is revealed to all.
