5 ways you can be a part of Friends of the Mississippi River
There are so many ways to be a friend of the river. Thousands of people in the metro Mississippi area get their hands dirty, donate, attend classes and advocate with us each year. Join us!
Annually, over 3,500 local river stewards get their hands dirty through FMR cleanups, storm drain stenciling outings, invasive species removals and other hands-on habitat restoration outings. We hope you can join us! Visit our events calendar for the most up-to-date listing of volunteer opportunities and events, or check out our volunteer page for more info.
2. Become a member
You can become a member with a gift of any amount to FMR. All donations help FMR realize practical solutions that improve local water quality, protect and restore critical land and habitat, and enhance the beauty of the river for all of us today and for generations to come. Donate online or find out about more ways to give.
Did you know FMR offers classes on rain barrels, river-friendly homes and gardens and more? See our event schedule to find classes. We also have a thriving education program. If you're looking for a great service outing that is educational, active, outdoors and provides a significant community benefit, consider an FMR-led storm drain stenciling or cleanup. Find out more about how to schedule an outing with your group.
4. Become a River Guardian
If you sign up to be a River Guardian, we'll email you when an important river issue arises. We make it quick and easy to learn about the issue and contact decision makers. River Guardians are also invited to special events, including happy hours, about important legislative and metro river corridor issues.
Your voice is essential to our efforts to protect, restore and enhance the Mississippi River! From banning pollutants to passing strong rules to guide local riverfront development, many of FMR's victories are thanks to our strong base of advocates.
5. Follow, like, share, subscribe
An easy way to stay connected is to like us on Facebook, Instagram and Twitter. Invite your friends and share our posts to help us spread the word about important issues, exciting happenings and more.
You can also subscribe to Mississippi Messages, our e-newsletter. We send two issues each month and we work hard to make sure it's full of inspiring and important river news.
