Hand-broadcast native prairie seed at Orvin 'Ole' Olson Park

Thursday, May 14, 2026 - 6:00pm to 8:00pm
Near Broadway bridge, North Minneapolis
Volunteers at Ole Olson Park

Orvin "Ole" Olson Park in North Minneapolis is known for its top-notch walking and biking trails and stunning downtown Minneapolis skyline views. The park is home to a surprising variety of landscapes, including riverfront shoreline, woodland terrace and now, thanks to FMR's volunteers and supporters, a restored prairie.

A recent trail extension project created some bare ground within the park, and revegetation is needed. Join FMR and the Women's Environmental Network of Minnesota to spread hand-collected seed and continue restoring this urban grassland.

Deep-rooted native prairie plants help reduce storm runoff pollution in the Mississippi River, stabilize the hillside above the river, and improve habitat for birds and insects.

All are welcome, but capacity is limited, and registration is required. As always, all tools and training will be provided, and volunteers are encouraged to work at their own pace and comfort level.

Accessibility

Our work area is adjacent to paved trails. We'll traverse off-trail on moderate to slightly steep hills during the seeding activity. Please wear sturdy shoes for stability and long pants to protect your skin. There are no public restroom facilities at this site, so please plan ahead.
