Rusty patched bumblebee buzzworthy in the Star Tribune

This summer we found the Minnesota state bee at one of our restoration sites. Why is that newsworthy enough to land in the Star Tribune?

The rusty patched bumblebee's population has plummeted almost 90% in the last 20 years, largely due to habitat loss. That's why we're thrilled that this federally endangered bee found our savanna restoration at Flint Hills Resources' Pine Bend Bluffs in Rosemount.

Thanks to Christopher E. Smith of Field Ecology who found the pollinator during a wildlife survey this summer. His survey findings help us refine our approach and celebrate habitat restoration successes like this one.
