Proposed federal river initiative in the news from headwaters to the gulf

As the story of the Mississippi as one of "America's Most Endangered Rivers" spread, dozens of journalists shined a spotlight on a potential solution: a new federal program to fund Mississippi River restoration and resilience projects from the headwaters to the gulf.

Throughout the river's 10-state run, over 75 articles, TV or radio news features covered the Mississippi River Restoration and Resilience Initiative or MRRRI Act.

Here in Minnesota, MPR News, WCCO and other media outlets featured FMR Water Program Director Trevor Russell and Rep. Betty McCollum, author of the MRRRI Act in the House of Representatives. Lake Pepin Legacy Alliance also worked with several local newspapers.

In other states, reporters worked with Iowa Environmental Council, Missouri Conservation Federation, Kentucky Waterways Alliance, Tennessee Environmental Council, and Healthy Gulf of New Orleans as well as umbrella organization Mississippi River Network.

We're excited to see greater awareness of this historic initiative not to mention so many of our MRRRI partners in the news (full media tracking sheet).
