Pioneer Press highlights St. Paul riverfront projects

From northern Minnesota to New Orleans, no city has more miles of Mississippi riverfront than St. Paul. Now the city is working to bring its Great River Passage plan to life by developing new parks and recreational opportunities along the river. 

A recent article in the Pioneer Press highlights some of the Great River Passage projects:

• The River Learning Center at Crosby Farm Regional Park would offer a new home for river recreation and education programs in the heart of the metro area. (Read more from FMR.)
• The downtown river balcony would create a promenade along the river bluff along Kellogg Blvd. This project would help reshape the area to offer more river access and views to pedestrians and park visitors. (We wrote about one segment of the balcony, the Riversedge project, in 2019.)
• New investment on St. Paul's East Side might improve access to and awareness of the Pig's Eye Lake area. 

Additional projects in the works

Other St. Paul riverfront improvements are also in the works, providing opportunities to weave together a riverfront that's more welcoming and accessible to residents and visitors. From the Wakan Tipi Center at Bruce Vento Nature Sanctuary to planned improvements to Battle Creek Park, the list of projects is long.

FMR will continue to advise on and advocate for these projects as design and planning continue. As always, we value projects that improve river access and enjoyment in a way that's equitable to all communities and good for the river's ecological health.
